I'm as full of contradictions as anyone else, I suppose. At age ten, I had a beer can collection, and my favorite movie was Any Which Way You Can.
A couple decades and change later, I'm a snob about beer and movies, among other things. If you stick around here long enough, I may possibly insult a fave or two of yours. I figure if you can't be opinionated about popular media, forget about the bigger issues. Chances are, however, the things about which I write disparagingly are the very ones for which I have some closeted fondness (The number of obscure 1970's tracks on my Itunes is nothing short of stunning!)
I haven't, however, dipped to the level of discourse that claims something to this effect: "I say whatever the fuck I want, and I don't care what anyone else thinks." Well, I do care what others think, and I'm quite convinced these pseudo-superhighway cavaliers do as well, or why would they be so damn defensive?
I simply love getting friended, regardless of who you are or how many interests we have in common, and I don't get weird about people having to ask me permission to add themselves. Please join in the fun, and bring a friend or two! In spite of the acidic nature of some of what flies off of my keyboard from post to post, I'm gracious and polite to those who respond to my journal, maybe to a fault. Well, OK, having never been needlessly attacked by a reader, I can only predict that I would not be inclined to answer vitriol with more vitriol, but I can't guarantee it.
Let's see. I think I'm usually kind, patient, generous, and some other Boy Scout-like tenets, minus, thankfully, the homophobia, and I suppose these characteristics render me kind of a lousy snob. I like to read. I like to write; OK, pretty self-evident given the medium. I like to eat--if you cook me a really good meal, I'll probably write about you. I like to board various modes of transportation, notebook in hand. More generally, I have a penchant for any bad days that lead to really good writing.
And let's just say I've had a few bad days.
